Safeguarding
Keeping everybody safe
We take our responsibilities in the safeguarding of the children at our school very seriously, following the guidance set out by the Department for Education. All members of our school community play a part in keeping our children safe. Here you can find out about the systems we have in place to do so, and what to do if you have any concerns about the safety of any of our children.
If you have any concerns about a child - please do act!
To see our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy please refer to our Policy Library.
Operation Encompass
We are part of Operation Encompass, a national scheme involving schools and the police to protect children who experience domestic violence. Please see the poster and the link to find out more.
What to do if you are worried about a child
Who to contact at Meltham Moor
Designated Safeguard Lead: Liz Woodfield
Deputy Designated Safeguard Leads: Angela Marshall
What happens if there is a cause for concern?
Our first priority is of course each child’s welfare and school is required to take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of its pupils.
However there may be occasions when we have reason to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill-treatment, neglect or other forms of abuse. We will ensure that our concerns about a child are discussed with his/her parents/carers first, unless we have reason to believe that such a move would be contrary to the child’s welfare. In this case school is obliged to follow the Child Protection procedures and inform the Children's Social Services of the concern.
If you are worried about a child's safety please do not hesitate to contact the school or contact Kirklees safeguarding.
