Welcome video transcript
Welcome to Meltham Moor Primary School! I’m Mrs Liz Woodfield and I have been the proud headteacher of this warm, vibrant and successful school since September 2014.
We have approximately 220 children, ranging from nursery to Year 6, and a highly skilled and dedicated staff team who are committed to providing the very best education to our children. Plus, there is an out-of-school club on-site, providing care before and after school, and a family centre, which offers valuable support to some of our families.
Curriculum
With high expectations of the children and staff, we celebrate and nurture strengths from across the whole curriculum, providing numerous opportunities for children to excel. Our teacher-led nursery and bespoke Early Years curriculum provides the children with an excellent start to their learning journey. Meltham Moor’s curriculum has been designed with the aim of creating knowledgeable and inquisitive children who know lots but want to find out more. Academic standards at Meltham Moor are consistently high – but we are so much more than just this.
Outdoor Environment
Meltham Moor Primary School is located on the edge of the Peak District National Park, surrounded by the stunning backdrop of the moors. With a fabulous outdoor environment, all surrounded by farmland, our children enjoy learning and developing skills in our wild space, large school field and expansive play areas.
Community
Our school has an excellent reputation within our locality and we are proud to be part of this community. Our children are actively encouraged to make positive contributions to their community, as well as their school and education. We also believe passionately in the partnership between home and school. As a result, there are many opportunities for parents to be actively involved in supporting their children's learning and our school.
Communication & Leadership
Our children are empowered to be confident communicators so that they can express their opinions on a wide range of different topics and issues. Opportunities to develop communication are threaded throughout our curriculum. We also have an active school council, where leadership skills are developed and nurtured.
Reading
We know that reading is the cornerstone to all learning. So, not only will every child leave our school a reader, but also a lover of reading. Each year group has 50 recommended books to read and treasure, plus we read to learn throughout all areas of the curriculum.
Sports & Activities
We also believe in being an active school, where our children can develop existing skills, learn new skills, and discover new sports, clubs, teams and organisations. Children can also attend a variety of after school clubs to allow them to take their love of being active a bit further.
Visits & Trips
Throughout their time at Meltham Moor, the children take part in various trips and visits, including an exciting residential trip in Year 6. Enrichment is carefully planned so that all children experience More at Meltham Moor. As part of this journey through school, our children learn to understand and appreciate life outside of the community they live in.
Inclusivity
We believe that all pupils, including children with Special Educational Needs, should have access to a broad and balanced curriculum. We take great pride in our aim for every child to be fully included in school life and value diversity and celebrate all our talents and differences.
Core Values
Our children are polite, well behaved and love to learn. With a feeling of calm and an air of respect, we are a happy school. And by providing a safe and secure environment, our children can thrive. Our core values – compassion, resilience, confidence, respect and love of learning – run through all that we do. Our aim is for every member of the school community to be the best that they can be – personally, socially and academically.
We look forward to meeting you and your children and welcoming you into our Meltham Moor family so that you can experience all of these wonderful things for yourselves!
